We built this platform with the lightest possible data footprint — in many cases, you can use WatchAlong.me without giving us any personal information at all. 1. Who We Are
WatchAlong.me ("we," "us," "our") is an online watch party platform that allows users to watch synchronized videos together in real time. Our platform includes:
- The main website at watchalong.me, which supports YouTube, Vimeo, Dailymotion, HLS live streams, and direct video URLs
- The WatchAlong browser extension, which enables synchronized watching on Netflix, HBO Max, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, Hotstar, Crunchyroll, and other supported streaming services
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information You Provide Voluntarily
WatchAlong.me does not require account creation or registration. For most users, no personally identifiable information is required to use the platform. However, if you choose to:
- Contact us via email — we collect your email address and the contents of your message
- Report content or submit a DMCA notice — we collect the information you include in that report
- Sign up for updates or a newsletter (if applicable) — we collect your email address
2.2 Information Collected Automatically
When you visit WatchAlong.me or use our browser extension, certain technical information is collected automatically:
Log Data: Our servers automatically record standard log data including your IP address, browser type and version, operating system, referring URL, pages viewed, timestamps, and the duration of your visit. This data is used solely for security monitoring, debugging, and aggregate analytics. We do not use it to build individual user profiles.
Room Activity Data: When you create or join a watch party room, we store the room ID, the video URL loaded in that room, and timestamps of room creation and activity. This data is used to operate the synchronization service and is not linked to any personal identity.
Usage Data: We collect anonymized, aggregated data on how features are used — for example, how often the drawing canvas is opened or which chat themes are selected. This data is never linked to individual users and is used solely to improve the platform.
2.3 Video Chat and WebRTC
WatchAlong.me's built-in video chat feature uses WebRTC (Web Real-Time Communication) technology. WebRTC establishes a peer-to-peer connection between participants, which may involve the temporary exchange of IP addresses during connection setup. We use STUN/TURN servers to facilitate this connection — your IP address may briefly pass through these relay servers but is not stored or logged in connection with your identity.
2.4 Third-Party Video Services
When you play a video from YouTube, Vimeo, Dailymotion, or another third-party platform inside WatchAlong.me, that platform's own player is loaded within our interface. Those platforms may collect data about your viewing according to their own privacy policies. WatchAlong.me does not control, access, or receive data from these third-party video players.

2.5 Browser Extension Data
The WatchAlong browser extension operates within your browser to enable synchronized playback on supported streaming platforms. The extension:
- Reads the current URL to detect whether you are on a supported platform
- Injects synchronization scripts to coordinate playback
- Does not read, transmit, or store your streaming service credentials or payment information
- Does not access your browser history beyond the active tab while active
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the limited information we collect for the following purposes:
- Providing the synchronization service — room state, video URL, and playback events are used to coordinate real-time sync across room participants
- Security and abuse prevention — IP addresses and log data are used to detect and prevent malicious activity, spam, and abuse
- Platform improvement — anonymized aggregate usage data helps us improve features and fix bugs
- Customer support — if you contact us, we use your email address to respond
- Legal compliance — in limited circumstances, we may be required to use or disclose information to comply with applicable law
We do not: - Sell your personal data to third parties - Use your data for targeted advertising - Share your data with third parties except as described in this policy or required by law - Build individual behavioral profiles
4. Data Retention
Room data (room ID, video URL, activity timestamps) is retained for a limited period after room inactivity, then deleted. Log data is retained for no more than 90 days. Email correspondence is retained for as long as necessary to resolve the relevant matter.
